Friends of Co-Opera

The Friends Present...

Friends of Co-Opera Performances 2009
Now in its fourth year the series of performances hosted by The Friends of Co-opera has aimed to provide more professional singing opportunities for young Adelaide singers and to provide alternative, informal entertainment for opera afficionados who look for more than the occasional mainstage performances on offer in Adelaide. We think these objectives have been met handsomely and uncovered another somewhat unexpected benefit. There are many members of the community who have "experimented" with a visit to a Co-Opera Friends concert not really being sure if the genre would be to their liking only to become intense devotees. Winning converts who are surprised at their own love of opera is one of the true joys of those who spend their lives devoted to the cause.

The Pirates of Penzance - a Friends of Co-Opera Performance in 2008

  My life opera and lunch

The enthusiastic response to this new series in 2008 has demanded its continuation in 2009. We have stayed with the 2009 formula of inviting one highly experienced and distinguished artist, one successful former Co-Opera entertainer, and one leading contemporary Co-Opera artist.

All sessions; 12 noon at the Public Schools Club, 207 East Tce, Adelaide

    Wednesday, 15 April

Teresa La Rocca will be squeezing this visit to Adelaide in the middle of a season of The Magic Flute for Opera Australia in Sydney. Friends will remember her remarkable performance as a last minute "save the day" Susanna in The State Opera of SA's 2008 season of The Marriage of Figaro. Teresa was a principal soprano for Co-Opera throughout the '90s.

    Wednesday, 8 July

Elizabeth Campbell is one of Australia's most distinguished mezzo-sopranos. She has sung with all major opera companies and State orchestra's and has an impressive string of international engagements to her name. Elizabeth is a Patron of Co-Opera.

    Wednesday, 16 September
Ernst Ens has sung with Co-Opera since 2003 when he served as a chorus member. His development from that time has been astonishing, culminating in 2008 with 38 performances of the role of Alfredo in La Traviata and in 2009 as Tamino in The Magic Flute in Australia and Europe. His skills as a professional guitar player have frequently been put to good use in Co-Opera productions as well.
